Tiny Book Holds Message of Hope

Do you have a favorite book that you read again and again?

The Four Agreements, by Don Miguel Ruiz, is a tiny book that packs a powerful message. Like walking a long-distance trek, it reminds me what is important and helps chase anxiety away.

My mantra mirrors Ruiz’ words of wisdom. This is what I repeat:

“Speak impeccably. Don’t take things personally. Never assume. Always do your best.”

In a nut shell, those are the four agreements. I have just read the book again, reading some passages over and over as I go. As usual, I have found peace in Ruiz’ message.

I would love to hear how the book affects you. Also, please share if there is a book you read again and again.

      1. The book starts a little slow because the first chapter is the author thanking all the people who’ve inspired him or taught him something over the years. The chapter after that is him just writing about his experiences and the lessons he’s learned. The book is especially powerful for those of us who are in our middle years because he talks a lot about how to age well and how to get comfortable with all the changes that take place in our bodies as we move toward the end. Aurelius is a stoic and stoicism is wonderful. Stoics and Buddhists have a lot in common.

  1. Thanks for the background…It is on so many great books lists. Hopefully, it will be on mine. I have been drawn to stoicism and its discussion of negative visualization and control. Powerful stuff.
